Airbnb has launched “Pay Over Time,” an option that collaborates with Klarna, allowing guests to distribute the cost of their accommodation over a period, rather than paying in one lump sum. This feature, part of a gradual worldwide introduction, is being introduced in twenty countries across three continents, including Ireland, by the start of 2024.
For Irish travelers, this means they can now apply to cover the cost of their next stay in three interest-free installments spread across two months. This initiative is especially timely, considering many people may be facing financial strains but still want to enjoy life and travel post-pandemic.
Simplified Payments, Enhanced Experiences
Amanda Cupples, the General Manager for Northern Europe at Airbnb, expressed enthusiasm about this launch. She stated, “We’re delighted to introduce Pay Over Time with Klarna to Ireland, offering guests the added convenience of spreading their payments over several weeks or months. This makes booking a solo adventure or planning a gathering with friends much more financially manageable.”
When you reach the checkout stage on Airbnb, you’ll notice a new feature. You have the choice to pay for your booking in full or opt for the ‘Pay Over Time with Klarna’ method. Selecting the latter redirects you seamlessly to Klarna’s payment platform, simplifying the entire process.
Answering the Demand for Payment Flexibility
Colin Creagh, the Head of Klarna in Ireland, shared insights about this collaboration, saying, “Airbnb informs us that a top desire among their guests is having more diverse payment methods for their bookings. We’re ecstatic to offer Klarna’s flexible payment solutions to Airbnb guests worldwide.”
This payment flexibility isn’t exclusive to Ireland. The service also debuts in six other European nations, including Czechia, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. And there’s more on the horizon with additional countries expected to join the list later this year.
Eligibility and Availability
Starting today, the ‘Pay Over Time with Klarna’ option is available to guests in Ireland for reservations ranging from €35 to €1,500. This wide range makes the service accessible for various accommodation types, from modest single rooms to luxurious homes.
