Forget the pricey coastal hotspots – if you’re dreaming of a Cornish home but don’t want to break the bank, then you need to steer clear of the likes of Padstow and St Ives! We’ve got the lowdown on the areas where you can snag a bargain, thanks to new data from the Land Registry.
Camborne – Your Cornish Property Paradise
Turns out, the cheapest place to buy a home in the whole of Cornwall is Camborne. Homes in the TR14 postcode area went for an average of just £237,026 in the past year – that’s a whole lot less than the average Cornish house price!
The Rest of Cornwall’s Budget Buys
Camborne might be the cheapest, but there are other areas where you can get a good deal. Bodmin and Dunmere (PL31) come in at a close second, with an average price of £242,349.
Redruth (TR15) is next on the list at £243,004 on average, followed by Liskeard, Dobwalls, and surrounding villages (PL14) at £241,248.
Cornwall’s Most Expensive Places
While Camborne might be a bargain hunter’s dream, some areas of Cornwall are still incredibly expensive. The most expensive postcode is Fowey (PL23), where homes sold for a whopping £629,987 on average in the last year.
Padstow and surrounding areas (PL28) come in at a close second with an average price of £608,186, while Wadebridge and Polzeath (PL27) are at £511,873.
The National Picture
It’s not just Cornwall where house prices are going crazy. The cheapest place in England and Wales to buy a home is Middlesbrough, where homes in the town center sold for an average of just £69,157.
But, if you’re looking to splash the cash, Belgravia in London (SW1X) is the place to be. Homes there sold for a mind-blowing average of £4.26 million in the past year!
The Bottom Line
The Cornish property market is a mixed bag. While some areas are still seeing astronomical prices, there are plenty of places where you can find a good deal. So, if you’re looking to escape the big city and buy a slice of the Cornish dream, don’t forget to look beyond the coast!
