New research reveals a surge in buyers snapping up energy-efficient new builds to combat rising bills. Could this be the right move for you?
Forget avocado toast, energy efficiency is the hottest trend for homebuyers right now! One in five buyers are choosing new builds, with a remarkable 60% putting energy efficiency at the top of their wish list, according to a recent study by Knight Frank.
This surge in popularity is fuelled by the sky-high energy costs that are squeezing household budgets. New builds, with their top-notch insulation and modern heating systems, are proving to be a savvy choice for those looking to save some serious cash on their bills.
Eco-Friendly Features a Major Draw:
The research found that a record-breaking number of new homes achieved the coveted EPC A grade in the second quarter of this year – the gold standard for energy efficiency.
“We’re seeing a significant increase in demand for these eco-friendly homes,” reveals Anna Ward, from Knight Frank’s research team. “This trend is set to continue as more buyers wise up to the long-term benefits of sustainable living, particularly in light of future environmental regulations.”
Future-Proofing Your Investment:
And it’s not just about saving money today. A growing number of buyers – 25% compared to 20% just two years ago – are factoring in future environmental regulations. This suggests that energy-efficient homes are not just a smart financial investment but also a way to safeguard against potential changes in regulations down the line.
New Builds Tick All the Boxes:
But it’s not just about saving the planet and your pocket. Buyers are also drawn to the shiny and new aspect of new builds. Having a say in the design through off-plan purchases and avoiding the dreaded property chain are major plus points for many.
Mark Evans, head of regional new homes at Knight Frank, confirms this trend, “The demand for new homes is undeniable. We’ve witnessed a surge in inquiries and sales, especially in the South East and Central regions.”
The message to home builders is clear: incorporate as many energy-efficient features as possible to entice discerning buyers who are in it for the long haul.
