Brits Ready to Move House After Election Shake-Up

Thousands of homeowners across the UK are feeling confident about moving home following the recent general election.

A new poll has revealed that a wave of optimism has swept the property market, with many Brits feeling ready for a fresh start. The survey, conducted by Opinium, asked 2,000 homeowners about their post-election plans and discovered that a surprising 16% are now more likely to consider moving.

London Leads the Way

The capital city appears to be at the heart of this new-found confidence, with almost a third of Londoners (31%) expressing a greater interest in moving home. This suggests that the election result has had a particularly positive impact on the London property market.

Estate Agents Remain Cautious

Despite the upbeat mood among homeowners, estate agents are adopting a more cautious stance. A separate survey of nearly 1,000 estate agents, conducted by GetAgent, found that the anticipated post-election boost has yet to materialise. While the majority of agents (56%) remain optimistic that the election result will ultimately benefit the housing market, they are yet to witness a surge in activity.

Renewed Optimism for Spending and Lifestyle

Stephen Jury, managing director of Jukebox Marketing, the agency that commissioned the homeowner poll, believes that the increased interest in moving is part of a wider trend. “We work across a variety of lifestyle brands, including property,” he explains. “While it’s not across the board, and there are still areas of caution, our stats do appear to show a renewed interest in spending money, living life to the fullest and making big decisions in the coming year.”

Will This Translate into a Buoyant Market?

It remains to be seen whether this wave of homeowner optimism will translate into a truly buoyant property market. However, the findings of the Opinium poll suggest that the election result has had a positive impact on consumer confidence, with many Brits feeling ready to make significant life changes, including moving home.
