Dreaming Spires, Sky-High Prices – Oxford House Prices Soar

Forget London, it’s the city of dreaming spires that’s seeing house prices rocket! Oxford has become the UK’s hottest property market, with prices jumping a massive 10% in just one year.

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), nowhere else in Britain comes close to this level of growth. The average house price in this historic city is now £549,581, says property website Zoopla.

So, what’s behind Oxford’s property boom?

Well, it’s always been a hit with families, but experts say there’s another factor at play: students. The huge rental market created by Oxford University is attracting landlords like moths to a flame, pushing up demand – and prices.

50% of homes in Oxford are now rented out privately – the highest rate in the whole country!

More Than Just Students

But before you think it’s all about the student digs, think again. Estate agent Adrian Wraight of Scott Fraser says that Oxford’s appeal goes far beyond the academic world.

“East Oxford is bustling with independent businesses and live music venues with the city centre in a walkable distance,” he explains.

And let’s not forget the city’s rich history and stunning architecture. Founded way back in the 8th century, Oxford is a captivating blend of ancient colleges, cobbled streets, and those famous “dreaming spires”.

Location, Location, Location

Another big draw is Oxford’s prime location. Just 57 miles from the bright lights of London, it’s a commuter’s dream. And if you fancy a taste of the countryside, the picturesque Cotswolds are just a stone’s throw away.

It’s not just about convenience either. Oxford was recently crowned the UK’s most walkable city by language app Preply. You can stroll between its top attractions – the Bodleian Libraries, the Ashmolean Museum, and the Natural History Museum – in just 22 minutes!

So, there you have it. With its unique blend of history, culture, and convenience, it’s no surprise that Oxford is now the hottest property market in the UK. But be warned: you’ll need deep pockets to grab a slice of this historic city!
