For many, the dream of seaside living with beach strolls and sunset swims seems just out of reach due to high property prices. However, new research from property experts GetAgent has revealed a hidden gem in the UK that combines coastal charm with affordability. According to this recent study, Saltcoats in North Ayrshire has emerged as the most budget-friendly seaside town to buy property in the UK, with the average house price pegged at a mere £114,696.
Saltcoats isn’t the only Ayrshire town that’s making waves in the property market. Nearby Girvan, located in South Ayrshire, also features prominently on the list of cost-effective coastal towns, where the average home is valued at around £194,003. These two towns are part of a wider trend across Scotland, which has seen a total of seven locations ranking in the top 20 for affordable seaside properties, highlighting the region’s overall attractiveness for buyers seeking a peaceful life by the sea.
Nationwide Perspective on Property Prices
GetAgent’s CEO, Colby Short, emphasises the wide range of choices available for those dreaming of a seaside residence. From the bustling coastal villages of the south to the serene towns of the north and Scotland, the UK offers diverse options for every preference and budget. While properties in the southern part of the country can often reach into the millions, more affordable options abound in the north of England and throughout Scotland.
Investment and Relocation Opportunities
The appeal of relocating to the seaside or investing in a holiday home is undeniable, and according to GetAgent’s research, potential buyers have numerous towns to consider. Whether the goal is to find a permanent residence or a seasonal getaway to rent out to holidaymakers, the opportunities for owning a property near the beach at a reasonable price are plentiful.
Other Notable Mentions
The study also highlights other towns across the county with attractive property prices, albeit not specifically seaside locations. Newmilns in East Ayrshire, for example, offers properties below £100,000, ranking it fifth in the overall list of affordable places in the UK. Additionally, Stevenston and Irvine, both in North Ayrshire and close to the coast, featured in the top 20 for the least expensive places to buy property in the UK, though they did not make the seaside-specific list.
