However, the commitment to eco-friendly home improvements doesn’t stop at property valuation. A notable 61% of prospective sellers have delved into research on government grants that target home heating advancements. But there’s a catch: a significant number have reported feeling puzzled about whether they qualify for these grants.

Last week’s decision by Rishi Sunak to soften the UK’s stance on green responsibilities might have raised eyebrows, but it hasn’t deterred homeowners from recognizing the inherent value in elevating their homes’ green standards.

A prime example is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. This government initiative offers generous grants, amounting to as much as £7,500, to support homeowners in transitioning from conventional gas boilers to environmentally-friendly heat pumps.

Interestingly, the sentiment among 68% of homeowners is that they would not invest in energy enhancements without the backing of a government grant. They firmly believe the government should shoulder the expenses involved in switching from traditional gas boilers to more sustainable heat pumps.

Robin Peters, the CEO of Snugg, shed light on an underpinning issue that might be slowing down the property market: a palpable gap in accessible information about home energy efficiency modifications.

Considering that UK homes are trailing in energy efficiency rankings across Europe and contributing to over a fifth of the nation’s CO2 emissions, the confusion is even more concerning. The prevailing uncertainty results from a lack of coordination in current grant schemes and the government’s fluctuating stance on environmental objectives.

Peters emphasized, “It’s imperative we ensure every individual has unhindered access to vital information. Only then can they make informed, affordable home modifications that not only spur the property market but also expedite our journey to achieving a net zero status.”
