Green Homes are Top of the Wishlist for UK Buyers

Brits are clamouring for energy-efficient homes, with most planning green upgrades to combat soaring bills.

81% of us are looking to make our homes more eco-friendly, according to a new study. Experts at Mortgage Advice Bureau found that a desire to slash those pesky energy bills is the biggest motivator (58%), with a third of us (32%) believing it would boost our home’s value.

Greener Homes, Fatter Wallets?

Ben Thompson, the deputy chief executive at Mortgage Advice Bureau, reckons it’s a no-brainer. “It’s fantastic to see so many people eager to make their homes more energy efficient,” he said. “But they need a helping hand to get it done!”

He’s calling on mortgage lenders and the government to team up and make green mortgages more appealing – think bigger loans, cheaper rates, and maybe even some cashback!

Saving the Planet, One House at a Time

It’s not all about the pennies, though. Over a third of us (36%) want a home with a tip-top Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating because it’s good for the environment.

Show Me the Money!

But let’s be real, the biggest roadblock for those shunning green upgrades is the eye-watering cost. A hefty 51% of those surveyed said it’s just too pricey.

Government to the Rescue?

The report suggests that government schemes like the heat pump grant are a hit with would-be homeowners and more are needed to make greener living a reality for everyone.
