Head to Wolverhampton for Your Dream Renovation!

New research has revealed that Wolverhampton is the top spot in the UK for your next renovation project. So, if you’re handy with a hammer and fancy bagging a bargain, this could be the news you’ve been waiting for!

The study, conducted by flooring experts Mr Sander, looked at a range of factors to determine the best locations for a renovation project. This included house prices (taken from Rightmove), planning approval rates (GOV.UK), the percentage of homes with renovation potential, and the quality of local tradespeople (Checkatrade).

Wolverhampton came out on top with an impressive overall score, boasting a median house price of £193,707 – significantly lower than the national average. The area also benefits from a high planning approval rate of 93.7%, meaning your plans are more likely to get the green light. And with 42% of homes identified as having renovation potential, you’ll have plenty of properties to choose from. Finding skilled tradespeople shouldn’t be a problem either, as Wolverhampton received an excellent tradesperson score of 9.90.

Anthony Miller, CEO of Mr Sander, commented: “This latest study reveals the prime locations in the UK ideal for initiating renovation projects highlighting the regions with significant renovation potential and shedding light on the key factors that inform successful property transformations.”

Following closely behind Wolverhampton in second place is another West Midlands gem, Sandwell. With a median house price of £199,977, a 92.9% planning approval rate, and a whopping 43.7% of homes ripe for renovation, Sandwell is another great option for those seeking a project.

In third place is County Durham, offering a more affordable option with a median house price of £127,727. It also boasts a high planning approval rate of 95.8%.

At the other end of the scale, London boroughs proved to be the most challenging places for renovations. Kensington and Chelsea came bottom of the list, with a median house price of over £1 million, a lower planning approval rate, and a very small percentage of homes suitable for renovation. Islington and Hackney followed closely behind, highlighting the difficulties of taking on a project in the capital.

So, there you have it – if you’re looking to get stuck into a renovation project, Wolverhampton could be the perfect place to start your search!
