New figures reveal that heat pumps are finally taking off in the UK. Over 30,000 homes got rid of their old gas boilers and installed energy-efficient heat pumps in the first half of this year. That’s a 45% increase compared to the same period last year!
Experts say the government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a major factor driving the heat pump rise. This scheme offers grants of up to £7,500 towards the cost of installing an air or ground source heat pump.
And it seems Brits are eager to cash in! Applications for the BUS grant have exploded by 72% year-on-year, with nearly 15,000 applications submitted in the first six months of 2024.
250,000 Homes Now Heated by Heat Pumps
The latest figures from the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) show that the UK has now hit a quarter of a million certified heat pump installations!
While this is a positive step, the government has set an ambitious target of installing 600,000 heat pumps per year by 2028.
Scottish Homeowners Offered Even Bigger Incentives
Homeowners in Scotland have even more reason to make the switch. The Home Energy Scotland (HES) Grant and Loan offers grants of up to £7,500 for heat pump installations, with an additional £1,500 available for rural households.
Heat Pumps Offer Long-Term Savings and Environmental Benefits
“It’s great to see the growing number of consumers across UK who are switching to heat pumps to heat their homes,” says Ian Rippin, chief executive of MCS.
Heat pumps offer a greener and more cost-effective way to heat your home in the long run. With the BUS scheme running until March 2028, there’s never been a better time to make the switch!
