Thinking of selling your home? New data reveals the UK’s property hotspots (and not-spots!)
If you’re looking for a speedy sale, pack your bags and head to Plymouth! New research from property website OnTheMarket has crowned the seaside city the fastest place to sell your home. Properties there are snapped up in a lightning-fast 32 days, on average.
Hot on Plymouth’s heels is Newcastle-upon-Tyne, where homes take just 35 days to find a buyer. Luton and Bristol tie for third place, with sales agreed in a brisk 37 days.
The report, called the Transaction Speed Index, shows that in Plymouth and Newcastle, over 60% of homes are sold within a month of being listed!
But what about the slowest market?
That dubious honour goes to Blackpool, where sellers face an average wait of 62 days – that’s double the time it takes in Plymouth! Slough crawls in at second slowest (54 days), followed by London and Rochdale (both 53 days).
London’s tale of two property markets
Even within the capital, there are huge differences in selling times. Bexley takes the crown for the fastest borough (41 days), while sellers in the City of Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea face the longest wait – a nail-biting 70 days.
So, what’s behind these differences?
Jason Tebb, from OnTheMarket, explains: “It’s not just about north versus south. Things like the number of homes for sale, how many buyers are looking, and even how a property is priced and marketed all play a part.”
His advice to sellers? “A good local estate agent can be invaluable. They can help you price your home right, market it effectively, and hopefully, secure a speedy sale.”
