Rightmove’s new Renovation Calculator gives you an instant online valuation of your home, just like their previous tool. But here’s the clever bit – it then lets you add in details of any renovations you’ve completed or are planning to do.

By crunching data on property prices and local renovation trends, the calculator shows you how much those improvements could increase the value of your home.

Need more space? The calculator includes options for major renovations that add square footage, such as:

• Loft conversions
• Single-storey extensions
• And more!

Rightmove’s product director, James Bassil, said: “One of the most common questions we received from people using our instant valuation tool, is that they wanted to factor in significant renovation works they had done since buying the home, or that they planned to make in the future.”

But don’t get too carried away! Rightmove stresses that the calculator is just a starting point.

Bassil added: “We’re clear with home-movers that this is an initial estimate, and agents seeing the property for themselves will be in the best position to consider any additional value added by renovation works. We’ll be continuing to educate home-movers that agents are the experts and in the best position to carry out a comprehensive valuation.”
