Scottish Homes Selling Like Hotcakes While Seaside Properties Linger!

Thinking of buying or selling your home? New research reveals Scotland is THE place to be for swift sales, while dreaming of a seaside escape might mean a longer wait.

Property website Rightmove has crunched the numbers and revealed that homes in Carluke, in Lanarkshire, are being snapped up quicker than anywhere else in Great Britain – just 15 days on average! That’s even faster than last year when it took 18 days.

Other Scottish hotspots like Giffnock and Uddingston, close to Glasgow, aren’t far behind, with homes selling in 16 and 17 days respectively.

Rightmove’s Tim Bannister reckons buyers are attracted by these areas’ easy access to Glasgow city centre, coupled with the promise of more space further out. He said: “Carluke has taken the top spot again this year for the fastest market across Great Britain, underlining the continued speed of the market in this part of Scotland. The Glasgow commuter towns of Giffnock and Uddingston are high on the list right now, suggesting buyers are looking for easy access to the city centre, whilst enjoying the increased space that being further out can bring.”

Overall, Scotland boasts the fastest property market in Great Britain, with homes taking an average of 33 days to sell.

South Coast Properties Need More Time to Charm Buyers

In stark contrast, seaside towns dominate the list of Britain’s slowest property markets. Brixham in Devon has the dubious honour of being the slowest, with homes taking an average of 118 days to find a buyer.

Skegness, Sandown, Minehead and Abergele are also lagging behind, all taking more than 100 days to sell.

London’s Fast Lane Found in the Suburbs

In the capital, forget posh central London postcodes if you’re after a speedy sale. This year, Walthamstow, Stoke Newington and Dagenham are proving to be London’s hottest spots for quick sales.

According to Rightmove, homes in these areas are being snapped up in 42 days on average, likely due to more attractive prices and handy transport links.

Bannister added: “In London, commuter areas such as Walthamstow and Dagenham are leading the way in finding buyers the quickest, likely driven by well-connected transport links and more affordable prices compared to central zones.”

Meanwhile, homes in swanky Knightsbridge, Chelsea, and Victoria are taking their sweet time to attract buyers, with prices likely playing a part.

House Type Matters Too!

Rightmove’s data also revealed that property type can impact selling time. Terraced houses are flying off the market quickest – in just 51 days – while detached homes are taking an average of 73 days to find new owners.
