Scottish Seaside Homes Selling Like Hotcakes!

Fancy living by the sea? You’re not the only one! Scottish seaside towns are booming, with houses in some areas now costing over £850,000!

New research from Rettie shows that people are flocking to the coast, pushing up house prices. In fact, 13 of the top 20 most expensive places to buy a house in Scotland are now by the sea!

The east coast is particularly popular, especially Fife and East Lothian, which boast nine of the top 10 priciest seaside towns.

Here’s the Top 10:

  1. Elie & Earlsferry (Fife): Average price – a whopping £869,459
  2. Gullane (East Lothian): Average price – £504,139
  3. St Andrews (Fife): Average price – £490,361
  4. North Berwick (East Lothian): Average price – £476,066
  5. Longniddry (East Lothian): Average price – £462,768
  6. Aberdour (Fife): Average price – £351,266
  7. Crail (Fife): Average price – £334,084
  8. Limekilns and Charlestown (Fife): Average price – £326,033
  9. Kilcreggan (Argyll and Bute): Average price – £324,609
  10. Lower Largo, Lundin Links & Upper Largo (East Lothian): Average price – £319,321

Why the rush to the seaside?

Experts say it’s a combination of things: beautiful beaches, picturesque towns and villages, and the chance to enjoy the great outdoors. Plus, with most of these towns within easy reach of big cities, you can have the best of both worlds!

Prices still climbing!

Over the last five years, house prices across Scotland have gone up by about 20%. But in some seaside hotspots, they’ve soared even higher:

  • Elie and Earlsferry: Prices up by a massive 84%!
  • Gullane: Prices up by 40%
  • Longniddry: Prices up by around 40%
  • St Andrews: Prices up by 57%

So, if you’re thinking of buying a seaside property, be prepared to dig deep – these homes don’t come cheap!
